Stadium

Sportpark Hohenberg is home to one of the ‘Traditionsvereine’ in Germany, FC Viktoria Köln 1904 e.v. which is, as history tells us, one of so many clubs that have merged due to their own course of existence.

The club has found its home at the Köln-Höhenberg sportpark which is quite a historical venue. Built in the war years 1939-1941, it has housed the FC Viktoria since then. The stadium’s eye catcher is the main stand, housing 3,000 people and it received the International Architecture prize from the IOC (the IOC/IAKS award) in 1993.

In 2012-2013, the stadium installed new flood lights, in order to play in Regionalliga night games and even in Bundesliga games if needed.

The stadium is the smallest of three professional football stadiums in Cologne. There’s some debate about the number of people it could fit, as the club officially states 6,214 spectators, but other numbers say 10,000 or 12,000. all standing, on the other side of the side line. Behind the left goal, there’s an improvised business lounge, housing around 100 spectators.

It was used as a training area during the 2005 Confederations Cup and the 2006 World Cup by several competitors in these tournaments.

Review Hospitality Package & Sport Ticket

Hospitality Package

Hospitality package: VIP-Lounge

– Admission to VIP-Lounge / VIP Booth (pre- and post-match as well as during half time)
– Executive seating in Main Stand
– BBQ inclusive of beers, soft drinks and coffee/tea

Hospitality Entrance

Entrance for ticket holders in the possession of a hospitality ticket / package is done via a separate VIP ticket booth that is next to the regular entrance. We were informed that we could enter the VIP lounge 1,5 hour before the match. This was not the case and we had to wait for approximately 15 – 20 minutes. At that point we called our contact person, Sascha, who arranged that several VIP-guests could enter. The walk towards the VIP entrance is quite nice as the stadium is located in a park surrounded by trees.

Restaurant

Included in the package is beers (bottles and drafts), soft drinks and coffee/tea. During our visit, a friendly match against Bayer Leverkusen, there were no wines being served which was a bit awkward. Normally this is also included in the package.

An authentic German BBQ was served with a variety of “Bratwurst” and “Currywurst” as well as other meat and poultry. Next to that a salad bar was presented accompanied by bread. The choice for vegetarians was rather limited to bread, corn and salads.

The F&B staff however was very helpful and were prompt in cleaning up tables and serving new drinks.

At full-time the players themselves and their family also joined the BBQ in the VIP Booth.

Business lounge

When Sportz Guru visited the club, the VIP booth was undergoing some construction so we were treated with a nice outside BBQ right next to the VIP Booth. It is located on the far left side of the Main Stand in a gated area for which a separate VIP ticket is necessary to enter. Sportz Guru was allowed to shoot some pictures inside the booth and was given a good impression of the 300 VIP visitors that are normally taken place in this lounge. It has some good viewing opportunities from behind one of the goals and comes with a fully licensed bar and kitchen that is spread out over two floors.

During half-time you can also visit the Booth, however you do have to leave the Main Stand as it located in a separate area. After the match, the Booth is open for another 2 hours giving you an optimal opportunity to relax and enjoy this cozy and relaxed atmosphere.

The VIP-guest and players of Viktoria Köln are very open and approachable. There is a relaxing atmosphere and the long tables stimulate interaction between guests.

Seating

The seating is located in the main stand at the half-way line but do not expect super luxurious leather padded seats. The seats in the VIP section are padded. However for the really fancy seats put yourself in the Viktoria Loge which is a separate section in the VIP area of the Main Stand. We feel that this is difficult as it is by invitation only.

Good to know

An excellent Biergarten is located just outside the main entrance (Zur Merheimer Heide) where you can enjoy your beer and pizza before or after the game. Should you look for a place to stay, we can suggest Servatius Hotel located only 5 minutes from the stadium by car.
