Stadium

Carrow Road is a football stadium located in Norwich, Norfolk, England, and is the home of Norwich City F.C. The stadium is located toward the east of the city, not far from Norwich railway station and the River Wensum.

The club originally played at Newmarket Road before moving to The Nest. When The Nest was deemed inadequate for the size of crowds it was attracting, the Carrow Road ground, named after the road on which it is located, was purpose-built by Norwich City in just 82 days and opened on 31 August 1935.

The stadium has been altered and upgraded several times during its history, notably following a devastating fire that destroyed the old City Stand in 1984. Having once accommodated standing supporters, the ground has been all-seater since 1992. The ground’s current capacity is 27,244, the most recent works being the addition of approximately 1,000 seats in the summer of 2010. The stadium’s record attendance since becoming an all-seater ground is 27,036, set during a Barclays Premier League match versus Crystal Palace on 8 August 2015.

In the days when fans could stand on terraces, Carrow Road saw a crowd of 43,984 when hosting Leicester City for an FA Cup match in 1963.

Hospitality Entrance

There are various hospitality entrances as there are numerous hospitality areas at the different stands. Most notably the one at the Geoffrey Watling City Stand where the Directors Entrance is and where we were greeted as being part of The Celebration Package. Here is also where the much familiar Carrow Road is situated after which the stadium takes its name. In contradiction with the Main reception at the Jarrold Stand, the Directors Entrance is more intimate and this is where the directors of both clubs enter the stadium.

Upon entering we were welcomed by our Canary legend Mark Barham (213 appearances for Norwich City) who gave us a private behind the scenes tour of Carrow Road. With private we mean private! Everything was looked at from dressing room, player tunnel, trophy room, hospitality areas and of course the pitch! Mark proved to be a very knowledgeable and nice person. What could have improved here is that we were promised to have a drink in the Boardroom, this was however not possible and were offered a drink in another area.

Restaurant

There was a little confusion as we were first presented with a two course pre-match meal, however this was quickly turned around by offering us a three course meal as part of The Celebration Package.

For starters, main course and dessert we were provided with 2/3 choices whereby every course had its own complimentary wine. Good quality food as well as the wine selection. We were kindly offered to have our dessert after the game which was a nice gesture.

Business lounge

This lounge/restaurant is located at the Barclays stand and is divided into two parts, a more informal one to have a drink and a formal one where dinner at private tables is served. Is is quite a big lounge, however with all the facilities one could imagine. Premier TV screens, ample bars and most notable an abundance of waiting staff. What definitely stands out next to the abundance of waiting staff is the friendliness of the waiting staff. Perhaps the best hospitality experience considering attentiveness of staff!

In the Gunn club the MoM presentations take place as well as the presentation photograph. This was well executed as only the parties who had included this in their package where given this opportunity in a ‘’guarded’’ part of the lounge.

After the MoM presentation photograph we were presented a huge celebration cake shaped in the Norwich City FC shirt with accompanying logo as well as a bottle of Champagne and a photo frame.

Seating

Although known beforehand, the seating was the part of this package that did not meet up to the overall excellent value. There are very few VIP seats at the halfway line (primarily only for directors and season card holders) so we were placed in a section called Top of the Terrace, which is located at the Barclays stand. You watch the game from behind glass faced boxes at seats that are padded but not with leather. The stadium vibe, cheering and fans are difficult to experience from an isolated glass box and is something that could be improved. As a result, the matchday PA announcement that was part of this package could not be heard of.

Good to know

Part of this package is your name and message visible on the full color digital scoreboards and your name and message printed on the official team sheet. This was a very nice add-on and our guests loved it!

Although the Holiday Inn hotel is in very close proximity to the ground, we prefered a room at the Maids Head hotel in the city center, which has a superb location and atmosphere.
