Millwall FC Review Hospitality & Sport ticket

The deal

In the media, Millwall’s supporters have often been associated with hooliganism, with numerous films having been made fictionalising their notoriety. The fans are renowned for their chant “No one likes us, we don’t care” which is sung to the tune of Sailing by Rod Stewart. A good reason for Sports Guru to visit this renowned football club.

Stadium

The Den (previously The New Den) is a football stadium and the home of Millwall Football Club in South Bermondsey, South East London, England, next to the railway line between London Bridge and New Cross Gate and a quarter of a mile from The Old Den. Built on a previous site of housing, a church and the Senegal Fields playing fields, it has an all-seated capacity of 20,146. The Den is the sixth ground that Millwall have occupied since their formation in Millwall, Isle of Dogs in 1885.

On 20 January 2011 the East Stand of The Den was renamed the Dockers Stand, paying tribute to Millwall’s earlier history and supporter base of dockers. The South stand is known as the Cold Blow Lane stand, which was a name of the road which led into The Old Den. The North stand is for away supporters and the West stand was renamed the Barry Kitchener stand, named after Millwall’s longest serving player. It houses Millwall’s family enclosure, press box and executive seats.

Hospitality Entrance

There are various hospitality entrances as there are hospitality areas at the different stands. We were able to pick up our tickets at the ticket collection point which is conveniently located at the Barry Kitchener stand where the executive entrance is located for guests of the VIP and celebration package. Our tickets were handed out smoothly and we were guided to the executive entrance next to the ticket collection point. At this entrance we were welcomed by Millwall FC hosts and guided to the first floor where our hospitality lounge was located.

Restaurant

A three-course pre-match meal with accompanying wines was offered in the Billy Neil Sponsors Lounge. Here we were treated with pate, lamb and a selection of sweets. The food does not really stands out but gives you a good meal before enjoying the game. During diner, wines are included as part of the package and waiting staff is very attentive. Pre-selected wines are offered but you can also buy your own drinks at the well-appointed bar.

Business lounge

The lounge is widespread and separated into three areas by means of sliding doors. Each one of them reflects the various hospitality packages one can buy with various services attached. Upon entering we were greeted by hostesses who were very friendly and informed us that we were in the Billy Neil Sponsors Lounge which is their premier hospitality package. It is a very cosy lounge where we found our decorated private table and were given a drink as part of the package. Millwall FC even put up a balloon where the age of our birthday guest was put on. The lounge is hosted by Millwall FC Legend Jimmy Carter (over 100 appearances), who proved to be a very kind and attentive host. Jimmy was accompanied by an in-house magician who gave away some very good card tricks. Barry Rowan, also a Millwall FC Legend is also present in the lounge and Barry proved to be a great entertainer and had a keen eye for detail. This sure was a nice touch and added to the overall experience we were provide with.

In this lounge we were able to have the post-match presentation photograph taken with the MoM and here we were also awarded our celebration cake, signed Millwall FC football and bottle of champagne.

Seating

A short inside stroll from the Billy Neil Lounge and you have arrived at the VIP padded seating at the Barry Kitchener stand. As this stand is built fairly steep, the seats are placed quite high above the Directors box. Seats are of good leather quality, the best we have experienced in League One.

Good to know

Sportz Guru was offered a tour of the dressing rooms as part of our celebration package but next to this we were also offered to see the Players Tunnel, the pitch and dugouts where we met one of the directors of Millwall FC, mr. Trevor Keyse who gave us some interesting insights. A big thank you to Millwall FC and Commercial Manager Mark Cole for making this possible.

At the dressing room tour we were also accompanied by another Millwall FC legend, Les Briley, who is Millwall’s Assistant Youth Academy Manager.

We have to admit that the attentiveness and eye for detail we experienced at Millwall FC, was extraordinary. It was truly a pleasure being there. Millwall FC Review Sport Hospitality Ticket
