Stadium

Stadion Woudestein has been the home of Excelsior since their foundation in 1902, though in the first part of the 20th century with several interruptions.

Woudestein became the permanent home of Excelsior in 1939, after it had undergone an extensive renovation. In the following 5 years though, the club was unable to use the ground as anti-aircraft guns were stationed there during the war.

The stadium underwent renovations in 1958 and 1973, though all this time remained modest with a maximum capacity of about 11,000 places.

By the 1990s, it had become severely outdated, and the club investigated sharing a ground with Sparta Rotterdam. These plans fell through though, and instead was decided to renovate Woudestein.

Two new stands were built, including a new main stand with business seats. Stadion Woudestein officially reopened on the 31st of July 2000 with a friendly match against Feyenoord .

One of the stands has recently been named after Robin van Persie, who played in the club’s youth academy.

Hospitality Package

Hospitality Package: Business Package

Standard Business Seats
Pitch-level view of warm-ups and game action
Three course private table dinner or brunch/lunch before the game starts, in Brasserie Woudestein
Access to Business Lounge

Hospitality Entrance

Stadion Woudestein is a little charming stadium which doesn’t have a real hospitality entrance as you would expect for a club that is playing in the highest division of professional Dutch football. That being said, it is nice to be surprised by a club that does it differently. As you enter the stadium it is literally a few steps away from the pitch so that also adds to the atmosphere.

Restaurant

Before the game a three course brunch/lunch or dinner is served in the Brasserie Woudestein which is a cozy and enjoyable restaurant that is located adjacent to the hospitality entrance. The Brasserie comes with a fully licensed bar and dedicated waiting staff. Once you enter the Brasserie you immediately feel at home due to its size and intimate ambiance. In our case, before the lunch starts, the guests gather around their bar where one can have a pre-lunch drink before you are escorted to your table.

The three course brunch consisted of an abundance, and we mean abundance, of food which was too much for two persons. Still, it was a fest to have lunch here! It all started with a vast selection of different bread with accompanying spreads, ham and cheese. After that we were being served soup, sausage bread, mini hamburgers and shrimps. It all ended with a great selection of sweets and cakes that were served on a separate desert table. All in all a very good brunch that we enjoyed for nearly two hours. Point of attention would be the size of the portions and the abundance of the food.

Business lounge

The business lounge has direct pitch views and from the business seats you have direct access to the business lounge. There are two large bars on either side and some food stands where you can buy sandwiches. Although the lounge is not that unique, it has a really good and friendly atmosphere due to the variety of people that are there. What is especially nice is that both the players and staff from either team come here for a drink after the game and to have a chat.

Seating

SBV Excelsior has different business seats: luxury and standard. We had the standard seats which are positioned slightly further aside at the Main Stand and are of different sizes and material than the luxury business seats (although still fully leather padded). Ample seating space is provided but heaters for instance are missing. As the stadium itself is relatively small you have good views over the pitch.

Good to know

We made the booking the night before the game by telephone with the restaurant manager from Brasserie Woudestein (Dennis Koebrugge). Mr. Koebrugge was very flexible, friendly and willing to help us and made sure that even as we made a last minute reservation, the dietary wishes were also taken into account at the Brasserie. We were looked after very well by his staff and truly enjoyed their hospitality!
